Project Scope:

  • EDC was engaged to develop an engineering methodology to enable safe replacement of the bucketwheel assembly on FMG’s Reclaimer RC701. The scope included EDC engineers attending site for 24-hour coverage during the replacement for a 7 day period.

The scope included:

  • Assess the maintenance case to AS4324.1-2017 requirements.
  • Analysis of all components integral to the support system during maintenance (rigging, tie down frame, lugs, bracing)
  • Develop an ITP with hold points for the critical job steps.
  • Continually monitor tie down loads on the machine to ensure structural design limits were not exceeded.

Challenge:

  • Significant corrosion at the lift points on the existing bucketwheel identified during the shutdown.
  • Changes to the assumed job sequence requiring immediate engineering analysis and decisions during the shutdown.

Success:

  • Performed rapid engineering analysis of the bucketwheel design to confirm that despite the corrosion, lifting operations were safe to continue and not cause delays to the shutdown.
  • Job completed safely and on time – no impact to the Client’s production.
